Mets left-hander Joey Lucchesi went unclaimed on waivers and was assigned outright to the team's Triple-A roster in Syracuse, per their transaction log at MLB.com.
Lucchesi has more than three years of big league service time and thus has the right to reject the assignment in favor of free agency but lacks the required five years to retain salary upon outright rejection, likely leading him to accept and return to Syracuse.
In 89 1/3 frames with the Mets, Lucchesi has a 3.93 ERA, 20.1% K rate, 8.6% walk rate, 42.8% grounder rate, and 0.91 HR/9. At Triple-A, he has a 4.20 ERA over 83 2/3 innings with a 17.9% K rate and 9.7% walk rate.
Mets rotation has seen limited opportunities for Lucchesi despite starter injuries. Veterans Quintana, Severino, and Manaea have started most games, with other options including Houser, Peterson, Megill, and top prospect Christian Scott.
