JetBlue passenger suddenly opens exit door as flight is taxiing for takeoff at Boston airport

Passenger Fred Wynn described the scene on board, saying, "They were like freaking out. They were like, 'Stop, stop'!" illustrating the panic that ensued after the exit door was opened.

The Massachusetts State Police confirmed that the JetBlue passenger, who opened the exit door "suddenly and without warning," will face charges and be arraigned shortly.

The incident led to an emergency slide deploying mid-flight, a significant safety concern that ultimately resulted in the flight being swapped to another aircraft before landing in San Juan.

JetBlue Airlines acknowledged the seriousness of the incident, stating, 'The opening of the overwing exit door caused an emergency slide to deploy aboard JetBlue flight 161 from Boston to San Juan.'
