The Boston Family Overdose Support Fund has been launched to assist families who lost a loved one to opioid overdose, providing up to $5,000 for various services like childcare, therapy, or legal help. Funded by a $250,000 commitment from the city and public health commission, it aims to alleviate the trauma and grief experienced by these families. Only one family member can apply, and funds must be directed to service providers, ensuring direct assistance to those in need.
"Overdose deaths have impacted every corner of our community and those who lost loved ones carry grief and trauma with them forever," Mayor Michelle Wu said.
"Our community engagement process made it clear that residents see the establishment of this fund as a crucial way we can help our grieving friends and neighbors pick up the pieces in the face of tragedy," Mayor Wu added.
