Following recent ICE operations in Acton, which resulted in several arrests, hundreds of protesters gathered to express their opposition. State Senator Jamie Eldridge noted he was informed about the arrests via constituents and verified the situation with local law enforcement. Acton Police Chief James A. Cogan clarified that while police were present for public safety, they did not participate in ICE's enforcement actions. He emphasized the police department's practice of not enforcing federal immigration laws and ensuring community safety without questioning immigration status.
Earlier today, I was contacted by a few constituents and advocates who are trusted sources that ICE agents were in Acton today.
During the course of that operation, conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Acton Police were asked to respond solely for the purpose of maintaining public safety and managing crowd control.
