"It's a book about chaos. Chaos and order. Fine line," says Oliver Jeffers who, along with Sam Winston, created The Dictionary Story. This narrative explores the delicate balance between disorder and structure, where all characters, from the alligator to the donut, embody a form of rebellion against the traditional story structure, leading to a playful yet disruptive adventure that breaks the expectations of a typical children's book.
"We had to literally make a book," explains Sam Winston, highlighting the inventive process behind The Dictionary Story. The challenge was not only in capturing the essence of a book as a character but also in physically creating a relatable presence for readers, which involved intricate bookbinding and artistic transformations that allowed the book to age and tell its own chaotic tale.
