Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked, developed by Resolution Games, resembles the abruptly canceled Project Sigil, which aimed to create a revolutionary virtual tabletop experience. Although there is no direct connection, fans draw parallels due to the similar goals of engaging both hardcore D&D players and casual gamers. Project Sigil was canceled in March 2025 after prolonged development issues, as reported by senior vice president Dan Rawson. In contrast, Battlemarked promises to deliver an immersive 3D tabletop experience, echoing concepts from Sigil while adopting a different approach to gameplay and monetization.
Sigil was supposed to revolutionize the way that Dungeons & Dragons, the world's most successful tabletop role-playing game, is experienced, only to see those hopes crushed by its cancellation.
After several months of alpha testing, we've concluded that our aspirations for Sigil as a larger, standalone game with a distinct monetization path will not be realized.
According to game director Gustav Stenmark, 'We are trying to emulate the feeling of playing Dungeons & Dragons with an immersive, fully 3D virtual tabletop experience in Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked.'
