The UK government has announced plans to demolish the Grenfell Tower, which was the site of a devastating fire that claimed 72 lives in 2017. This decision has drawn significant criticism from relatives of the victims, who feel their concerns have been disregarded. They argue that the site should either remain until justice is served or be preserved as a memorial. Despite acknowledging safety concerns regarding the tower, advocacy groups have expressed disappointment over the lack of consultation and transparency regarding the decision-making process.
"Ignoring the voices of bereaved on the future of our loved ones' gravesite is disgraceful and unforgivable," stated Grenfell United following Angela Rayner's announcement.
"We want a discussion about the facts... about what will go in the Tower's place," said Grenfell Next of Kin regarding the government's decision.
