A group of British politicians has urged England to boycott their match against Afghanistan in response to the Taliban's brutal treatment of women and girls. The joint letter, signed by over 160 MPs, including prominent figures from across the political spectrum like Tonia Antoniazzi, Nigel Farage, and Jeremy Corbyn, highlights the dire situation and calls for action against grotesque abuses, advocating that the ECB take a stand on such critical issues through the proposed boycott of the ICC Champions Trophy.
Richard Gould, CEO of the ECB, emphasized that a uniform response is needed from all ICC member nations regarding Afghanistan's cricket participation. He expressed the board's strong condemnation of the Taliban's oppressive policies against women and girls, saying, 'We call for a united front among cricketing nations to address these severe human rights violations. Women's rights are non-negotiable, and we must hold our conditioning to support women's cricket, as mandated by the ICC Constitution, at the forefront of discussions surrounding Afghanistan's participation.'
