Nine protesters accused of failing to disperse after a pro-Palestinian demonstration at UC Irvine agreed to a diversion program allowing for dismissal of their charges.
Prosecutors have not objected to the diversion program, which requires community service and restitution for most defendants lacking previous criminal records.
The charges against protesters have drawn criticism from civil rights groups, alleging they are politically motivated amid a wave of campus protests nationwide.
District Attorney Todd Spitzer stated that while peaceful assembly is protected, any criminal activity associated will not be tolerated.
