RightsCon Community Calls for Urgent Release of Alaa Abd El-Fattah
Briefly

At the recent RightsCon conference in Taiwan, digital rights organizations raised urgent calls for the release of Alaa Abd El-Fattah, who is imprisoned in Egypt. Notably, his mother, Laila Soueif, addressed attendees from a hospital after a lengthy hunger strike. Highlighting Alaa's contributions to digital rights and linking them to broader human rights struggles, speakers, including Access Now's Executive Director and a close friend of Alaa, emphasized the importance of solidarity and collective action. The UK government subsequently acknowledged Alaa's situation, reflecting growing international awareness and urgency around his case.
As Alaa's mother, I thank you for your solidarity and ask you to not to give up until Alaa is out of prison.
He understood that the fight for digital rights is at the core of the struggle for human rights and democracy.
