Carlos Baltazar, a California firefighter who went missing in September 2020, was identified after remains were discovered in the San Bernardino Mountains. Baltazar was part of the team fighting the El Dorado Fire, which resulted from a gender reveal party gone wrong and led to considerable tragedy, including the death of his fire captain, Charles Morton. Baltazar was reported missing shortly after Morton's death, with his last seen location near a barracks before he disappeared. His remains were only found in October 2021, three miles from his abandoned car, highlighting the search's challenges and the community's loss.
In October of last year, a man hunting on a remote road in the San Bernardino Mountains found a human skull. The remains have now been positively identified through DNA analysis as those of Carlos Baltazar, a California firefighter missing since 2020, authorities said.
Carlos went to report to the barracks to prepare for the funeral services and was not seen after talking with co-workers.
He did so much for the community as a Wildland Firefighter and put his life on the line for others.
Carlos was always positive, always putting God and his family first.
