Myanmar and China have world's worst environment' for internet freedom
Briefly

The Freedom on the Net (FOTN) report revealed a continuing decline in global internet freedom for the 14th consecutive year, with significant drops particularly noted in Kyrgyzstan, where government actions under President Japarov have severely limited online expression and media.
Kyrgyzstan experienced the sharpest downgrade in 2024, primarily due to President Sadyr Japarov's efforts to clamp down on online organizing and silence digital media outlets, particularly through the shutdown of the investigative website Kloop.
The report pointed out that both Myanmar and China now share the lowest score for internet freedom, with Myanmar's military regime intensifying its censorship and surveillance, marking a significant worsening of digital rights.
Across the examined countries, 27 of the 72 saw diminished protections for online human rights, revealing a troubling trend where users in three-quarters of countries faced potential arrest for their online activities.
