Israel follows US in withdrawing from UN Human Rights Council
Briefly

Israel has declared its intent to withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), following the U.S.'s lead. Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Saar criticized the council for persistent anti-Semitism and institutional bias, claiming that the decision reflects Israel's stance against ongoing negative scrutiny. However, UNHRC spokesperson Pascal Sim highlighted that Israel's observer status prevents it from formally withdrawing. The council, which consists of 47 member states, reviews human rights records periodically. While Israel has boycotted many discussions on Palestine, its participation in the UNHRC has been marked by contention.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar accused the UNHRC of anti-Semitism, stating the decision to withdraw was due to persistent bias against Israel since 2006.
Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur, criticized Israel's withdrawal as reflective of their hubris and a denial of accountability for their actions.
