On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the community in Point Reyes Station rallied against the oppressive measures of the Trump administration, focusing on immigrant rights and solidarity. Organized by West Marin Community Services, the event drew a crowd of hundreds who shared food and stories, all while reinforcing the connection between current struggles for immigrant rights and historical civil rights movements. Amate Perez highlighted the necessity of expansive solidarity, linking the fight for equity with land and reparations for marginalized groups. The atmosphere was marked by communal strength in response to national division.
We can't demand immigrant rights without also demanding land back for our Indigenous brothers and sisters and reparations for our Black brothers and sisters. Our struggles are really one.
The rally was a community affair, with the crowd seated on hay bales and folding chairs, emphasizing solidarity under the banner of West Marin Standing Together.
