On May 22, a Southwest flight from Nashville to Phoenix was diverted to Oklahoma City due to passenger Jendaya Kashar Brennan's alarming behavior. She attempted to open the aircraft's emergency exit mid-flight, kick and spit at flight crew, prompting the FBI to charge her with interference. Despite efforts by crew members and other passengers to restrain her, Brennan persisted in her aggression, necessitating the diversion for safety. Authorities affirmed that the aircraft's doors cannot be opened at cruising altitude due to cabin pressure.
While somebody trying to open a plane's exit in midair would be a frightening situation, it is not possible to actually open the door at altitude.
Brennan continued to fight the flight crew and broke her wrist restraints, forcing the captain to divert the plane to maintain safety for all.
