Teen bicyclist seriously injured after semitruck collision in Capitola

A 17-year-old rider of a Super 73 e-bike sustained serious injuries in a collision with a semitruck in Capitola, but is now in stable condition. The incident occurred when the truck's driver was making a delivery. The driver stopped, assisted the juvenile, and remained at the scene. First responders arrived promptly, providing aid as the juvenile was trapped under the truck. He was subsequently airlifted to a trauma center. The truck driver was deemed not impaired and fully cooperative with law enforcement investigations.
Officers arrived within two minutes of the crash and also began rending aid to the juvenile, who was trapped beneath the truck, by applying a tourniquet.
The driver of the vehicle stopped and rendered aid to the juvenile and remained at the scene of the incident.
Capitola Police Chief Sarah Ryan told the Sentinel Wednesday that the bicyclist remained in stable condition, but detailed information was limited due to his status as a juvenile.
According to the post, the driver was not impaired at the time of the collision and cooperated with officers when they arrived.
