At the start of the UAE Tour Women 2025 in Dubai, Lizzie Deignan expressed emotional sentiments about retiring after 18 years as a professional cyclist. Preparing for her last season with Lidl-Trek, she is determined to make it enjoyable and memorable. Deignan has had a prolific career, winning 43 races, including three Monuments, and has significantly impacted women's cycling. In her farewell year, she will take on a supportive role as a domestique, marking a change from her previous leadership position.
"It's the start of the end," Deignan told Cyclingnews at the start line. "I do feel good; I am really happy with my decision and I'm determined to make it a fun and successful year."
