'Every time I ride well, something happens' - Filippo Ganna unable to break the chain of disappointment at Tirreno-Adriatico
Briefly

Filippo Ganna, a top rider from Ineos Grenadiers, faced a mechanical issue in the last stages of Tirreno-Adriatico, specifically a chain malfunction. Despite his powerful performance on the climb, he could not sprint for victory due to the derailment. Thankfully, his mishap occurred close to the finish line, allowing him to maintain his overall leader's jersey. Ganna expressed disappointment over his missed opportunity but highlighted his strong winter training process, which aims to position him as a strong contender for Milan-San Remo, having improved both his weight and muscle composition this year.
Fortunately, the problem occurred in the final three kilometres of the stage so Ganna was given the same time as the chasers and kept his blue race leader's jersey for another day.
Ganna explained post-stage, still disappointed on missing out on a chance of another stage victory. "I'm disappointed. Every time I ride well, something happens."
Ganna appears to be stronger than his chain and stronger than ever. He will surely be a Milan-San Remo contender, just as he was in recent years.
We've worked hard this winter and tried to improve," Ganna said simply. "Last year I was ill a lot in the winter but fortunately so far this year, touch wood, I've been fine.
