Lisa Simpson, a Brazilian-born artist in Berlin, creatively combines textiles and sound in her workshop. Filled with sewing machines repurposed as musical instruments, her vibrant studio is a blend of industrial and whimsical aesthetics. Simpson, alongside collaborators Stephanie Muller and Klaus Erika Dietl, formed Ensemble Dressed in Sound to celebrate this innovative art form. Their upcoming performance, Sharper Than a Needle, marks the world's first textile machine orchestra, showcasing the artistic potential of sewing machinery at Munich's Kammerspiele theatre.
Simpson has created a unique blend of sewing and sound, redefining the use of sewing machines by turning them into synthesizer-like devices for performance.
Together with artists Stephanie Muller and Klaus Erika Dietl, Simpson established Ensemble Dressed in Sound, aiming to unite a community of sewing machine musicians.
