Michael Tilson Thomas, a prominent American conductor, died at the age of 81. He had undergone surgery for a brain tumor in 2021, but the tumor returned in 2025. His final concert with the San Francisco Symphony took place in April 2025. Tilson Thomas received 39 Grammy nominations, winning 12, and was honored at the Kennedy Center in 2019. Born in Los Angeles, he was immersed in the arts from a young age and collaborated with many notable composers throughout his career.
