Across distances, indie rockers the Ophelias keep refining their sound
Briefly

The Ophelias, an indie-rock quartet formed in Cincinnati, consists of members spread across the country after briefly playing together as high school seniors. While currently based in different cities, they manage to create music inspired by their hometown, particularly showcased in their fourth album "Spring Grove." Lead singer Spencer Peppet expresses trust in her bandmates as they collaboratively shape her compositions, which feature rich string arrangements by violinist Andrea Gutmann Fuentes. The band's unique dynamic and varied individual experiences contribute to their cohesive sound, despite limited practice time before performances.
"We had nine months in Cincinnati as a band, and then everyone went off to school, and we've been split up around the country since," Peppet says.
"Spring Grove is a place where a lot of Cincy bands get inspiration, because it's huge, sprawling, Gothic. There's ponds, there's swans."
"I trust them a lot. We've known each other since we were 18... there've been a couple times, one on each record, where the band made it into a totally different song."
"Andrea is amazing. She'll come in with a 10-piece violin part already written. She's very purposeful with what she does."
