Who Are the Pierogi Boys?
"Many of the Polish restaurants in New York are specifically built toward Polish people, and we did it the opposite way. We always wanted our place to feel very open. We wanted to promote Polish food."
"Whereas the Boys' first venture - the 150-square-foot food-hall counter - is painfully authentic and employs their grandmothers' recipes, the new restaurant has a more fluid approach."
Ridgewood, Queens has emerged as a dining destination attracting creative professionals from Bushwick. The Pierogi Boys, Polish immigrants living in Ridgewood for 21 years, opened a 40-seat restaurant with an attached grocery in a converted funeral home. Previously selling pierogi at DeKalb Market Hall since 2017, the partners intentionally designed their restaurant to appeal beyond the Polish community. Unlike traditional Polish restaurants catering specifically to Polish diners, Pierogi Boys takes a more inclusive approach. While their market counter maintains authentic recipes from their grandmothers, the restaurant menu adopts a more fluid style, initially drawing criticism from visiting Poles but ultimately serving as an accessible entry point for those interested in Polish cuisine.
