Now on view in a large industrial hall at OGR Torino, 'Retinal Rivalry' employs 3D cinematography and cutting-edge filming at 120 frames per second, challenging conventional viewing experiences.
Exhibition curator Samuele Piazza touts it as 'the best cinema you'll see in Europe,' crediting the hyperreal presentation and the artist's ability to unlock the medium's sculptural dimensions.
Piazza explains, 'Since the eyes receive way more information than they can process, they don't have to fill in the gaps... the brain, instead, is seeing the real thing,' which illustrates the immersive nature of this work.
Lastly, the high costs of creating and projecting this piece are difficult to justify in the art world, but it showcases video art receiving blockbuster-level treatment.
