VTA, union leaders summoned to appear in court next week as transit strike continues

The Santa Clara County Superior Court denied the Valley Transportation Authority's (VTA) request for a temporary restraining order to halt a strike by the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 265. The union is on strike due to unresolved contract negotiations over pay and arbitration rights. While the VTA alleges a breach of a no-strike clause in a prior agreement, the union asserts that the agreement has expired. A court hearing is scheduled for March 26 to determine the legality of the strike.

The court has denied the VTA's request for a temporary restraining order against the union strike, but ordered union representatives to appear for legal clarification.

Judge Nishigaya's decision allows the union to explain the legality of their strike, despite allegations of breaching a no-strike clause from an expired agreement.
