Travis County Commissioner Brigid Shea emphasizes that the main threat to the region is water scarcity, highlighting its devastating impact on the economy and real estate values.
Shea advocates for thoughtful water use and stressed, "We can't change the fact that it's getting increasingly hot, but we can change how much we waste water."
Celebrating the county's resilience initiatives, Shea noted, "We just won another national award this year for our resilience initiatives, the big one being water conservation."
With plans to extend the purple pipe program, Shea stated, "We'll be permanently eliminating demand for 45 million gallons a year just by swapping out the water supply for our air conditioning systems."
