A Planning Commission meeting on January 14 recommended rezoning a vacant lot in North Loop, formerly a junkyard, across three addresses for a new mixed-use housing development. The change aims to implement residential units above commercial spaces and includes zoning categories to enhance development. Proponents highlighted benefits such as accessibility to public transportation and the need for affordable housing. However, local residents expressed concerns, citing previous property mismanagement and potential traffic issues stemming from increased residential density in the area.
Adnan Prcic, who said he lived across the street from the lot, told the commission that in his view the proposed development would exacerbate traffic congestion, stating, "We already have issues with traffic in this area, and adding more residential units will only make it worse."
Temaria Davis, representing JEV Family, Ltd., emphasized the benefits of the rezoning by stating, "We're making this request to add residential uses, and this is exactly where DB90 is intended to go, in a high-transit area, on the edge of a neighborhood in or near a major thoroughfare."
