The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering downlisting the golden-cheeked warbler from endangered to threatened, but the process will be lengthy.
Sandra Gladish stated, 'The Service previously published two 'not-substantial' 90-day findings that were challenged in court...' suggesting the petition lacked sufficient information for delisting.
U.S. District Judge David Ezra ruled that USFWS 'did not apply the correct standard when evaluating the petition,' prompting a reevaluation of the bird's status.
According to USFWS, the five-year status review recommends downlisting the golden-cheeked warbler under the Endangered Species Act as part of their evaluation process.
