The city received a boost in its plan to construct broad, plaza-like caps over sunken portions of Interstate 35, with the announcement of a $105 million federal grant to fund a portion of the construction.
The federal money was seen as an essential piece of the cap-and-stitch efforts, which are expected to cost the city more than $500 million and would include 30-foot east-west 'stitch' roadway crossings throughout the project.
