During the NFL's annual league meetings, Vikings' coach Kevin O'Connell clarified that the team's conversations regarding free agent Aaron Rodgers are not indicative of any concerns about J.J. McCarthy, who was drafted tenth overall in 2024. O'Connell emphasized that while they believe McCarthy is the quarterback of both their future and present, the opportunity to potentially sign Rodgers, a four-time MVP, warranted discussion. McCarthy, who missed his entire rookie season due to injury, is expected to benefit from the experience in preparation for the upcoming spring.
We took [McCarthy] 10th in the draft last year after a very extensive evaluation process. A lot of things that we hoped to see from him, we saw in a short amount of time.
On one hand, we believe McCarthy is our quarterback of the future and very likely our present. On the other hand, Rodgers' pedigree demanded full discussion.
