1890 - The Boston Beaneaters defeat the Brooklyn Bridegrooms 15-9, the first National League game for Brooklyn, later known as the Dodgers.
1950 - Sid Gordon's grand slam assists the Boston Braves to a 10-6 victory over the New York Giants, marking the first grand slam of the season and one of 35 for the year.
1981 - The Oakland Athletics establish a modern-day record with 11 consecutive wins to start the season; a record broken by the 1982 Braves with a 13-game winning streak.
