"Mansolino had been in the running to become the new manager for the Orioles after his interim stint as manager ended with the Orioles posting a winning record while he was the skipper. Those plans got nipped in the bud when Craig Albernaz was named as manager of the O's going forward and now he's found a home in Atlanta's organization as their new third base coach."
"Meanwhile, the real intriguing hire here is the addition of J.P. Martinez to the staff. As the press release within the embedded tweet mentions, the Giants bullpen put up some pretty impressive numbers during Martinez's sole season as their pitching coach. The staff as a whole was borderline top 10 overall, as they posted the 11th-best ERA- as a collective (94) and the FIP- (also 94) was tied for fifth-best in all of baseball. Those numbers got even better when you looked at just what the relievers were doing, as San Francisco's bullpen posted the third-best ERA- in all of baseball (85) and the joint-10th-best FIP- in all of baseball (94)."
The Atlanta Braves finalized multiple coaching hires, adding Tony Mansolino as third base coach and J.P. Martinez as bullpen coach. Mansolino arrived after serving as Baltimore's interim manager and previously as the Orioles' third base coach; Craig Albernaz was selected as Baltimore's manager, leaving Mansolino available. J.P. Martinez joins after one season as the Giants' pitching coach, during which the staff recorded strong metrics: a near top-10 collective performance and especially strong bullpen numbers. The Braves now have a reinforced pitching staff with Jeremy Hefner as pitching coach working alongside Martinez in the bullpen.
