"Born in Brooklyn in 1927 to James and Dinah Baron, Dorothy was the youngest of four children. Her father had immigrated from Odessa, Ukraine, and despite his humble beginnings, built a small tailoring business through which he supported his mother, wife and children. Dinah, also of working-class Jewish heritage, kept a kosher home and encouraged their children to study and pursue higher education."
"Dorothy graduated from Hunter College, when she met the love of her life, Lee Marsh. As Lee often recalled, he was fresh out of military service when a doe-eyed 18-year-old Dorothy, wearing a sharp blue beret, asked the first question at a political talk he gave to Hunter students. Six months later, they were married in a simple ceremony and were wed for 67 years until Lee's passing in 2015."
"Dorothy's determination to pursue a career brought her to Wayne State University in Detroit, where she earned a master's of social work degree while raising her two young daughters. After the family moved to California in 1961, she continued to practice social work in Contra Costa County, and then went on to work with the family business, Marsh Electric. Dorothy's roles as purchasing agent and managing client relationships were instrumental in making the business a success."
