Cyrah Dardas, a Detroit-based artist, draws inspiration from natural materials like oxidized metals and foraged plants, merging them into abstract paintings on cotton paper. Her work reflects juxtapositions of human-made elements with organic components, reminiscent of Persian tapestries. Dardas explores themes of belonging and connection to nature, critiquing modern individualism's disconnect from the environment. Through her art, she aims to foster reciprocity and a deeper connection with the natural world, highlighting the importance of cooperative relationships and ecological awareness.
In my practice, I ask myself, could I possibly foster some level of reciprocity with any-or all-of the many elements and beings that have brought me here and taken care of me?
All of my work as an artist flows from this seeking, seeking to understand belonging through a more loving relationship to place.
