Prospect New Orleans will skip its 2027 city-wide exhibition, focusing instead on publishing a commemorative book titled 20 Years of Prospect. This book will encompass essays, personal accounts, and archival images from the triennial's six iterations. Executive director Nick Stillman stated that taking a step back is essential for reflecting on Prospect's legacy. Only two editions have been properly documented. Financial factors and national politics influence this decision, as funding for large-scale exhibitions addressing political topics has decreased amid changing political landscapes.
Launching another large-scale exhibition is not the focus right now. A step back is necessary to both take a break and reflect on Prospect's legacy.
We do not want to see a situation where Prospect is ever threatened with erasure. This is an attempt for us to turn our attention toward ensuring that the accomplishments of Prospect are recognized.
Prospect's board has been very attuned to the macro political situation that we're facing in this country. There's less funding available for efforts like large-scale exhibitions.
