Virginia Woolf’s recent discovery of two previously overlooked poems highlights her lesser-known side as a poet, showcasing her playful and profound engagement with language.
"It's obviously these two quickly drafted poems. And I immediately think 'well, that's odd.' Because Virginia Woolf isn't a poet," said Sophie Oliver, revealing her astonishment.
The two poems, "Hiccoughs" and "Angelica," reflect Woolf's playful language and deeper emotional connections, set in a context not previously explored in her literature.
Oliver believes the poems were overlooked because researchers typically do not expect to find unrecognized works tucked within personal correspondence, especially those fully published.
