In 'Nesting' and 'Wrapped,' Natalie Ciccoricco Collages Reflections on Nature and Grief
"These are not somber artworks, but rather an expression of radical acceptance and a surrender to both love and grief,"
"Between my own personal grief and the state of the world, I feel my art practice has become an important anchor in my life,"
"It's both a tether to something beautiful and familiar, as well as a quiet resistance against all the fear, hate, and violence we are witnessing right now."
Natalie Ciccoricco combines delicate geometries and organic forms by threading multicolored string through handmade paper and found materials. The Nesting series envelops small twigs with fiber, interrupting meticulous shapes and echoing how trees grow around obstacles. The Wrapped series collages small panels with colorful imagery then binds them tightly with thin yarn as a meditation on loss and grief following the sudden death of her son. These works are expressions of radical acceptance and surrender to love and grief. Her practice functions as an anchor, channeling calm, order, and harmony and serving as a quiet resistance to fear, hate, and violence. Commissions include work at Alila Ventana in Big Sur, and additional work appears on her website and Instagram.
