"The final day of 2025 is a good time to remember and honor the Oregon arts figures who've died in the past twelve months - people who've left their marks on our cultural lives, altered the way we see and hear and think, and helped shape our perceptions of the world around us. Literary figures who've left us include novelist Todd Grimson, theater critic Misha Berson, classical music writer David Stabler, playwright Steve Patterson, and screenwriter/film critic Roger Margolis."
"From the theater world we've lost Patterson, Berson, longtime Oregon Shakespeare Festival standouts Denis Arndt and James Edmondson, actor Mandy Andersen, actor/playwright/singer/composer Ernie Lijoi, and lighting and scenic designer Eugene Dent. In the world of visual arts, those we've lost include the painter and visual chronicler of Black life Isaka Shamsud-Din, painter and printmaker William Park, innovative gallerist Donna Guardino, sculptor and performance artist David Eckard, painter/teacher Robert (Bob) Dozono, and assemblage artist Rick Rolphe."
"The highly accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer Anita Menon, who founded Anjali School of Dance, died. And in the world of music we lost Stabler, the great jazz vocalist Nancy King, veteran singer/songwriter Jack McMahon, psychedelic rock and jazz standout Joseph Byrd, longtime Portland State University jazz professor Charley Gray, and alt-rock Americana singer/songwriter Todd Snider. Below are our appreciations of each, with links for most to ArtsWatch's more complete memorials."
