Iron Reef is a permanent installation by Maetherea, located along the River Yare in Norfolk. The design features hundreds of vertical rebars that emulate the industrial movement of the nearby ferry. These rebars interact with the wind, reflecting local history. Iron Reef incorporates natural processes, such as flooding and microbial growth, becoming both a sculpture and habitat. A phosphorescent pathway enhances the visitor experience by guiding them with subtle light. The structure's appearance varies seasonally, contributing to its dynamic interaction with the environment.
Iron Reef, designed by Maetherea, features hundreds of vertical rebars that sway with the wind, representing the movement of reeds and connecting with Reedham’s traditions.
The installation's dynamic external forces, including seasonal flooding and organic growth, transform Iron Reef into a living sculpture that evolves over time.
