Nathan Owsley, a glassblowing artist from Washington, cultivated his craft from a young age, influenced significantly by his artist mother. His deepened passion for glassblowing emerged with an interest in cannabis, which drove him toward self-learning through online videos and practical experimentation. Facing early challenges, including age restrictions and lack of parental support, Nathan's determination helped him develop skills secretly, eventually leading to family backing. His current work includes the innovative Strottle, a unique borosilicate dab rig designed in collaboration with the Corning Museum of Glass, showcasing his evolving style and artistic journey.
"My mom is an artist who worked with glass, doing both fused glass and lampworking, so I was exposed to the craft from an early age."
"The biggest challenge in my early days was that I wasn't legally old enough to make pipes, and my parents weren't on board with it at first either."
"I used whatever time I had when my parents weren't home to practice, making pipes and selling them to friends at school."
"The simplicity of the Strottle, a one-piece borosilicate dab rig, is a result of collaboration with friends at the Corning Museum of Glass flame shop."
