Bookshop.org has launched a new e-book platform aimed at supporting local bookstores by ensuring they receive all profits from sales. This initiative, announced during a rise in e-book popularity, allows readers to buy and download e-books through local bookstores, enhancing accessibility for diverse readers. Store owners like Tiffany Phillips emphasize the importance of e-books for those with visual impairments or physical challenges. While e-books will complement physical book sales, this strategy is crucial in maintaining the relevance of indie bookstores in a digital age.
"There are a lot of readers who prefer the digital format because you can enlarge the fonts if you have any kind of visual impairment or impaired vision," Phillips told NPR.
"The biggest thing is that every time somebody makes a purchase, they're shaping the future of their neighborhood or their town or their community," said Mulvihill.
