After the Sept. 11 attacks, Michelle Buteau decided: 'I better start living'
Briefly

In the days after Sept. 11, 2001, Michelle Buteau made a life changing move. She was working as a TV news editor when she decided to do stand-up comedy. 'I realized, 'Wow, we all might die. So I better start living.'
Buteau hustled in small towns, laundromats, strip bars, following advice to 'go to a room where you're the worst' to improve. 'An opportunity to learn and get better.'
Buteau credits comedy with helping her endure four miscarriages and IVF, saying, 'Humor is my lifeline. Comedy kept me alive, gave me something to live for, a sense of normalcy.'
