1m Picasso portrait up for grabs for 100 in charity auction
"But you no longer need to be a multimillionaire to own a Picasso for 100, anyone in the world has the chance to walk away with a painting by one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. The French charity Alzheimer's Research Foundation announced recently it was raffling Picasso's 1941 portrait, Tete de femme, which is worth more than 1m, to a single winner."
"He helped his family, especially my grandmother Marie-Therese [Walter]. He helped friends. He helped people in need during the civil war in Spain, during the second world war, and even after, in the 50s and 60s. Olivier Picasso, grandson of the artist, poses next to Tete de femme. Picasso's paintings rank among the world's most expensive art, with some works fetching over $100m at auction. A French charity, Alzheimer's Research Foundation, is raffling Picasso's 1941 portrait Tete de femme with €100 tickets, offering anyone worldwide the chance to win the painting valued at over €1m. Proceeds will fund Alzheimer's research. The initiative, titled 1 Picasso for 100 Euros, received approval from the Picasso administration and estate. Olivier Picasso endorsed the project, citing his grandfather's generosity. Producer Peri Cochin conceived the raffle after seeing fundraising practices at events and reserved the painting from the Opera gallery.
