Xiaomi Now Using Humanoid Robots to Assemble Electric Cars
"To integrate robots into our production lines, the biggest challenge is for them to keep up with the pace. In Xiaomi's car factory, every 76 seconds, a new car gets off the assembly line. The two humanoid robots are able to keep up our pace."
"The robots in our production lines weren't doing an official job, more like the interns. Despite the successful trial, Lu keeps his expectations tempered, suggesting the robots remain in a developmental phase rather than serving as permanent production workers."
Xiaomi has begun a trial deployment of humanoid robots at its electric vehicle factory in Beijing, with two robots successfully completing assembly line tasks at a 90.2% success rate. The robots apply lugnuts to vehicle chassis with a 76-second cycle time, matching the factory's production pace. Company president Lu Weibing emphasized that integrating robots into production lines requires them to maintain factory speed, which these robots achieve. Currently positioned as intern-level workers rather than permanent replacements, the robots represent a significant milestone in industrial automation. This development follows similar trials by UK-based Humanoid and reflects China's leadership in industrial robot deployment.
