What I learned from offbeat manga artist Katsuya Terada
Briefly

Katsuya Terada grew up in Tamano, Okayama Prefecture, Japan, which fostered a longing for distant cultures. This influenced his art and shaped his career. A notable inspiration was an illustration by Moebius seen at age 15, alongside the influence of his father. As he ages, Terada faces the challenge of adapting his art while retaining its depth. He hopes to create meaningful work well into his 90s, aiming for continual personal evolution and the unveiling of new artistic insights as time progresses.
Growing up outside a bustling city before the internet era made me acutely aware of the distance to the emerging cultures in faraway places.
I can recall one particular piece that inspired me: an illustration by the French comic artist Moebius I saw in a magazine when I was 15 years old.
The first challenge will be learning how to face myself as my hands and eyes lose their youthfulness - in other words, as I age.
I'd like to keep drawing until I'm 90 years old... that’s enough time to debut something new and create more meaningful artwork.
