Up to 70% of streams of AI-generated music on Deezer are fraudulent, says report
Briefly

Deezer reports that a significant portion of AI-generated music streams on its platform are fraudulent, with as many as 70% of these streams linked to bots. Though AI-generated music comprises only 0.5% of overall streams, the manipulation allows fraudsters to earn royalties by evading detection mechanisms through high listening numbers on a few tracks. The platform, which sees daily uploads of 20,000 AI tracks, is actively investing in tools to combat this issue and has pledged to exclude fully AI-generated content from its recommendations.
"As long as there is money [in fraudulent streaming] there will be efforts, unfortunately, to try to get a profit from it," said Thibault Roucou.
"We're investing in fighting it, because we know it's not going away and we need to be one step ahead every time," explained Roucou.
"Deezer has deployed a tool it says can detect 100% AI-made content from the most prolific AI music models such as Suno and Udio."
"AI-generated music streamed by fraudsters ranged from fake pop and rap music to artificial mood tracks."
