UK awards 1.73M to AI projects to advance net zero goals
Briefly

"AI is the defining technology of our generation and the UK is harnessing its enormous potential to ... tackle shared global challenges, particularly climate change," said minister for AI Viscount Camrose Jonathan Berry.
Among the funded projects are those that target improving weather forecasting, identifying green finance projects, analyzing traffic for emissions reduction, and recommending low-carbon technologies for construction.
Even older AI models like GPT-3 emit the carbon equivalent of driving 480,000 miles to the Moon and back just for training, highlighting the significant energy consumption and environmental impact of AI technologies.
