The AI Opportunities Action Plan, launched on 13 January, outlines 50 government-accepted recommendations to enhance the UK's AI infrastructure and research capacities over the next decade.
One of the core tenets of the action plan is the commitment to set out a long-term strategy for the UK's AI infrastructure needs, backed by a significant 10-year investment.
Among the recommendations are plans to expand the AI Research Resource (AIRR) capacity substantially and to establish 'AI Growth Zones' to boost AI datacentre development.
The plan highlights the importance of international cooperation by proposing agreements for compute partnerships which would enhance the available capabilities for researchers in the UK.
