Salesforce's AI Research has launched its inaugural report addressing the deployment of AI agents in business environments. The report emphasizes overcoming the limitations of large language models (LLMs) that can exhibit 'jagged intelligence', a phenomenon where models perform inconsistently across different tasks. Salesforce categorizes its innovations as 'boring breakthroughs', which are reliable and scalable. The report highlights the need for trustworthy AI agents to enhance productivity, especially as IT departments increasingly rely on automated systems for everyday operations.
"At Salesforce, we call these 'boring breakthroughs' -- not because they're unremarkable, but because they're quietly capable, reliably scalable, and built to endure," said Silvio Savarese, Salesforce's chief scientist and head of AI research.
Salesforce notes that this 'jaggedness', or the discrepancy between an LLM's raw intelligence and consistent real-world performance, is particularly challenging for enterprises requiring consistent operational performance.
