The Avon and Somerset Police Department is testing an AI system, Soze, that condenses decades of detective work into hours, but concerns about accuracy remain.
"You might have a cold case review that just looks impossible because of the amount of material there and feed it into a system like this which can just ingest it, then give you an assessment of it," said the UK's National Police Chiefs' Council chairman Gavin Stephens.
Despite the promise of rapid analysis, there are significant concerns about AI accuracy, as seen in previous models revealing high incorrect result rates.
Stephens acknowledges the need for validation before rolling out AI tools in law enforcement, highlighting the importance of accuracy to avoid false positives.
