Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, emphasized to students at the University of Tokyo that it is no longer possible to outrun AI. He urged young people to focus on integrating AI tools into their daily lives and developing new skills that complement AI advancements. OpenAI's CPO, Kevin Weil, echoed this by suggesting students ask how AI can enhance their work. Altman reassured that AI will evolve alongside humans and change the nature of work, thereby pushing humanity to adapt rather than compete directly with AI.
"You will not outrun the AI on raw horsepower," Altman said in a Q&A session alongside OpenAI CPO Kevin Weil. "That's over. That's probably over this year."
"To me, the lesson in there, the thing to take away now, is just start using these tools," said Weil. "When you're doing something new, ask yourself, 'Is there a way that AI could help me do this faster?'"
